Here we have for sale a very solid and very original 4-berth Westfalia Camper, 1974 2000cc, imported from the sunny States of America.
The inside of this van is all original - full-width rock and roll bed with original Westfalia checkered upholstery, 2-ring gas burner, on-board water tank, 3-way fridge, electric hook-up, double fold-out bed in the roof (which can take 2 adults) making this camper van a proper 4 berth. All the units and upholstery are in original condition and for a camper of this age they are very good and only need a good clean. Westfalia think of everything and this layout work's well, not bad for a 35 year old design.
The outside and underneath of this camper has NEVER been welded, which is very rare! The only rust hole I can find on is in the battery tray, which is about a 2 inch by 2 inch hole, a very common place for them to go, and easily repairable. Most vans of this age have usually had plenty of welding done (and sometimes done very badly) so the beauty of this van is that you have none to do - no lining up badly fitted panels, no filler in the joins, just nice, original VW metal! All the doors shut nicely and all the gaps are good. The paint is not original but the colour certainly is - maybe not showroom quality - but clean and shiny!
I put the van through an MOT and it failed on tyres, lights and washers...and that's it. I have now fitted a fresh set of wheels and nearly new tyres, new hub caps, replaced some bulbs and pumped up the washers, so now she's ready for a re-test - pretty good for 35 years old!
By the end of the week I will have fitted a Wolfsberg West roof canvas and if you know anything about VW's you'll know that these are the best quailty roof canvases you can buy, very strong and durable.
The engine is a 2000cc beauty, which starts on the button and pulls like a train, great for climbing those hills - the gear change is good and being a later bay window, this van comes fitted as standard with servo-assisted brakes and disc brakes on the front.
